Provisional return to training

Thank you all for your patience over the spring and the summer. Some of us met with Caerphilly County Borough staff today, and we are hopeful that we can start getting swimmers back into the pool from 21st September.

Session times will be different and we will be restricted to the number who will be able attend, as such each swimmer will have fewer sessions per week to start with.

Thank you to those of you who have confirmed that your child would like to return to the club. We are now at the place that we need definite numbers so if your child would like to restart training could message Lynne on 07967 191518 with your child’s name/ squad and preferred pool ( Caerphilly/ Bargoed/ Cefn Fforest – we may not be able to accommodate everyone’s preference).

Annual fees and WASA

We hope you are all keeping safe and well. The committee were told by Swim Wales yesterday that Swim Wales Club & Membership renewals will be processed as usual from 01 April 2020. (WASA) Membership fees include insurance cover which remains in place throughout this period as do the development staff employed by Swim Wales who support the membership across our 83 clubs and your 11,000+ club members. Please can you therefore ensure that you have paid your WASA fees to Ruth ( by the end of March 2020.

We also agreed last night that during this time we are not going to ask you to pay your monthly contribution to our annual fee. If you could all therefore cancel your standing orders so you don’t pay in April, we will ask you to reinstate these when we return to training.

Newport Spring Open Meet May 2020 – Cancelled

Unsurprisingly we heard yesterday evening that this gala has also been cancelled. We will destroy all cheques we have received for galas. Please email Ruth or Lynne if you need refunds via BACS.

Keep safe and well, if anyone needs anything or just fancies a chat, we can add you to the C squad whatsapp group, just let is know your contact details. Keep in touch all x

As a committee our obvious priority during the evolving Coronavirus outbreak is the safety and well-being of our swimmers, their families and our staff and volunteers . Therefore, in light of the Prime Minister’s press conference yesterday we are going to cancel all our training sessions. We will keep this under continuous review and will keep you all updated.

Cardiff have taken the decision to postpone the meet and plan to run the gala on 19/20 September at the Cardiff International Pool.

They plan to “freeze the gala entry” and hope all can make the new date to compete. However if any individual swimmers wish to withdraw, then they will refund. Please let Ruth or me know if you wish to withdraw.

As the club rightly say it is unprecedented times and the health and wellbeing of swimmers, families, coaches and staff is paramount.

Coronavirus ( COVID – 19) – Swim Wales update

You will be aware via the media that the number of confirmed cases of Coronavirus (“COVID-19”) across the world, and more locally within the United Kingdom, is growing.

At this moment in time we have received no recommendation for postponing or cancelling any upcoming Championships; however, we are monitoring the situation and will follow advice and guidance from all relevant government agencies, including Public Health Wales.

The health and wellbeing of our members is of paramount importance and we will act accordingly to minimise any risks posed by COVID-19. Key to efforts to contain COVID-19 is good hygiene practice and we urge everyone to follow the guidance from Public Health Wales

  • Always carry tissues with you and use them to catch your cough or sneeze
  • Bin the tissue
  • To kill germs, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water, or use a sanitiser gel

Further health advice, including what you should do in the event of developing symptoms and self-isolation, is available on the Public Health Wales website.

As always, should a Club member feel unwell, they should not take part in any aquatic activity and should seek appropriate medical advice where necessary.

If you have medical concerns relating to COVID-19, please contact – by telephone – your local doctors’ practice or NHS Direct Wales on 111 or 0845 46 47. Do not attend in person, if you feel you may have symptoms.

Travel guidance relating to specific countries and regions around the world which have been impacted by COVID-19 is also available on the Public Health Wales website.  This includes health advice for those returning from those areas. Please also make use of the UK Government Foreign and Commonwealth Office website for wider travel advice specific to each country.
