Day of activities at Dolygaer

Fancy a day full of activities!!

We are organising a day of canoeing/kayaking and climbing at Dolygaer Mountain Centre, Pontsticill, Nr Merthyr Tydfil on Wed 28th August. The event is open to swimmers from B1, B & C squad members initially and then A squad if there ore any spaces left. All the activities ore run by schoolcqmp.co.uk and there will be some of the committee/coaching team there supporting.

The day will consist of being picked up by bus at 8:15om (from the back of the castle)
and being taken to Dolygaer, once there you will then take port in one of the above
activities and return for lunch at 12:30pm (o pocked lunch needs to be brought with
you). At 1:30pm you will then go off and do the second activity returning to the centre
at 4:30pm to return home and be picked up at approx. 5:15pm (at bock of the castle).

Due to the fantastic fundraising the swimmers hove done lately, the club are going to
subsidise the cost of the trip by 50%. We feel this is a great opportunity for the
swimmers to work together and build on the excellent team spirit that already exists in
the club and then continue this on to supporting each other at club chomps in Sept.

If you are interested, then you need to complete the attached consent form and return
it along with the cost of E20 to Sarah Legg by Fri 26th July. Due to the limited number
of spaces (40) it will be on o first come, first serve basis.

Standard equipment for activity sessions:
• Waterproof trousers and jacket
• Worm coal / Jumper
• Water bottle (2 litres) and lunch
• Fine weather – Sun cream, sun hot and sun glosses

Big Cheese Race 2013

Ready, Set…. Cheese – Book your place in the Great Cheese Race Now!

With Caerphilly’s annual Big Cheese Festival only just over a month away, its time to make this summer one to remember by booking your place to take part in one of the highlights of the weekend – the Great Cheese Race!
CCSS are looking for swimmers to make up teams full of energy and enthusiasm to sign up and join the opening celebrations of the weekend on the Friday evening (26th July).

Children and adults alike are encouraged to take part in the fun run around a special course, which takes participants around the grounds of the magnificent castle, with fancy dress adding to the laughter and enjoyment.

Every year teams line up to take part in the race. Now it’s your turn and all you have to do is create a team of 4 swimmers / parents to come along at 6.00pm. You can walk, jog or run – at the end of the day it’s just for fun!

The race is a great way to raise sponsorship for the club,if we have enough interest we will make it a sponsored run. Over the last 4 years CCSS has won the junior section, and last year we took, 1st and 2nd place, and this year we are looking to break that record for a 5th year.

Get your team’s together, and let Sian Boyles know who your team will be, before July 10th. All entrants will receive a certificate and medal, with overall winners for best fancy dress and each race.

Bag Packing

The club has arranged a bag packing event at Asda, Caerphilly on Saturday 19th January 2013.

There are two sessions 10.00am until 2.00pm and 2.00pm until 6.00pm.

All swimmers are expected to at least do one session if not both. Please could you let me know what sessions you are able to attend. The more tills covered the greater opportunity to raise more money.

Parents are more than welcome to stay but it is expected you stay if you have younger children.

Children MUST wear club shirts.

Again this year CCSS entred two teams into the Caerphilly County Big Cheese race.  In the past two years CCSS have won the event  in style.  But this year was an all girl entry with two teams of various ages.

CCSS A team was made up of Bethan Aldridge, Hedd Boyles, Nicole Carey and Emma Sutton and CCSS B team Rhiannon Aldridge, Charlotte Allen, Katie English and Chloe Wilshire.

Both teams ran in their heats to get to the final, with the A team going in as the favourites to compete for first place with Caerphilly Football club.  At the start the A team dropped their cheese putting them in 3rd place.  Coming into the home straight CCSS B team took the lead and held on to take first place with CCSS A team taking 2nd place.  Well done girls!
